How do I Link my Paypal to Mpesa?

How do I Link my Paypal to Mpesa?

PayPal is one of the most effective methods of online payment in existence. PayPal is available globally meaning you can receive money from people in different parts of the globe in Kenya with ease. Before PayPal struck a deal with leading telecommunications giants Safaricom, Kenyans used to withdraw money from the online payment system to their bank accounts. However, the process was lengthy thus creating inconvenience.

Safaricom recently partnered with Transfer-To (now known as One/Thune) to enable Kenyans to withdraw funds from PayPal directly to their mobile phone. The process takes less than a minute to complete and your transaction is processed in less than two hours. PayPal also converts your money from dollars ($) to Kenyan Shillings (Ksh) as well as any other form of currency into dollars. The process might not be free, but it is cheaper compared to the aforementioned alternatives and faster.

How do I transfer funds from PayPal to M-Pesa?

  • Link your PayPal account with M-Pesa

The merger between PayPal and M-Pesa not only allows users to withdraw money from PayPal to M-Pesa but top up their PayPal wallets as well using M-Pesa. However, for this to happen, those two accounts need to be linked. Your PayPal account has a ‘link your accounts’ option under ‘get started’ after logging in. Once you enter your mobile phone number, PayPal will send a 4-digit confirmation code to complete the process.

After linking your accounts, go to the PayPal M-Pesa page (https://www.paypal-mobilemoney.com/m-pesa) and click on the login button on the top right corner. This page makes it possible to view your available funds while displaying the transaction cost for the same to your M-Pesa account.

  • Withdraw from PayPal

The withdraw button makes it possible to view your available balance and start the withdrawal process. The button is located next to the ‘Top Up to PayPal’ option making it easy to navigate the page.

  • Available Balance vs. Current Balance

Due to the charges incurred when transferring funds, you cannot withdraw the exact balance on your PayPal account. This stage displays the available balance, which you can withdraw by clicking the withdraw button. If you do not wish to withdraw the full amount, enter the amount you wish to send to your M-Pesa then click on the withdraw button at the bottom.

  • Confirm

The amount you wish to withdraw will be automatically converted to Kenyan Shillings by the fourth stage of this process using the current exchange rate. The amount of time it will take for your transaction to be completed will also be shown at this stage. Normally, the process takes about two hours or less. After confirming your transaction, you will receive a message claiming your withdrawal request was successful and is being processed. Now just kick back and wait for your money to reflect on your M-Pesa account.
