Kazuri Beads Kenya, Kazuri Jewellery images

Kazuri, which means "small and beautiful" in Swahili, began in 1975 as a tiny workshop experimenting on making ceramic beads made by hand. The clay, which comes from Mount Kenya, is processed on-site, and there's a short tour of the workshop where around 340 women, most of them single mothers, produce the merchandise that's sold in shops throughout Kenya.

The factory is located in what used to be part of the Karen Blixen Estate (of the Academy Award winning film "Out of Africa") fame. They have further applied their knowledge of ceramics and the artistic flair that has made their necklaces so attractive, in the design and production of their own unique range of pottery-ware, which reflects the culture and wildlife of Kenya. Each piece, like our beads, is hand made and hand painted in rich colors and our range is extensive from individual collector pieces to dinnerware.
